Company description:: Can art be made from scrap? Gascony-based artist Manfred Reul-Schweizer firmly says yes. “Things that are important today become unimportant tomorrow because they are not needed anymore and thus end up in the scrap yard. This is the product of today’s consumer society. My idea is to allow for new things to develop out of these materials.”
Reul-Schweizer, who has just launched his website http://www.Reul-Schweizer.com, was born into war-torn Frankfurt. His childhood memories of debris and ash in his bombed neighborhood set the stage for decades of reconstruction. All along he tried to give usefulness back to scrap and now he is giving scrap a new meaning through his art.
“Looking back I can see how my work with scrap stems from this time which had a great impact on my life,” maintains Reul-Schweizer. “I was forced to see how something meaningful, my whole environment, had been turned into useless, meaningless scrap in a matter of a few hours.”
Reul-Schweizer’s art features vivid colors, animal shapes and images clearly inspired by mythology, literature, and the quirks of our modern world. He is not afraid to be deeply political, but also quite willing to explore the whimsical side. Many of his works are on permanent display at a gallery near his home in the Gascony countryside as well as in various private collections in France and Germany. They can be viewed on the Sculptures page at http://www.Reul-Schweizer.com
Even if most of his sculptures are meant to bring a sense of joy, some are very intriguing and initiate deep reflection. He has won the Palme D’Or Prize and the Prix Muses d’Europe, has been the subject of several profiles in various publications, and has been invited to speak at major exhibitions in Germany and in his homeland, France.
Reul-Schweizer’s new homepage is designed to be fun and hopefully encourage people to come and view his art. New works are published regularly with information on past and coming exhibits.
