May 24, 2004 -- b.inc VFX Production Services in Bombay announces the opening of Pachyderm 2nd Unit. " Pachyderm was actually formed out of a direct need for a dedicated 2nd unit to shoot FX plates for our VFX Company, b.inc VFX Production Services (http://www.bincvfx.com). We were shooting on a rather large feature film production and our VFX plates were suffering because we were at the mercy of main units very tight schedule. Rekha (Rekha Kalra, Producer/co-founder) had commented on how much easier it would have been if we had our own small unit to shoot the plates and not have to interrupt the Director during important main unit photography.... so there it was. Pachyderm 2nd unit!” comments Bryn Cadman ( Director).
"We have made some strategic alliances with studios that facilitate special equipment, such as Prime Focus(http://www.primefocus.co.in), who have a Marc Roberts Milo Motion Control Camera Rig. This is an amazing relationship. We get access for our clients to MoCon and get to work with some pretty cool people, too." Bryn says of Prime Focus. " Yes and they have been so supportive with our plans and ideas" comments Rekha.
Pachyderm 2nd Unit operates like any other production unit except smaller and a lot more specialized. Special rigs and gear can be manufactured or specific kit can be brought in and operated by skilled technicians. Specializing in Visual Effects , Stunts, Motion Control and mechanical FX, Pachyderm can also accommodate traditional 2nd Unit photography.
